- Hi everyone!
-
- Well I am one of the many new Lightwave owners and have a few
- questions regarding the way LW renders scenes.
-
- If I have an object that is only visible for say 20 frames out of
- 50, does Lightwave render/or use RAM for this object when it's outside of
- the view area?
-
- I guess I am comparing this to how I used to use Imagine. ie.just
- tell the object to load only for those 20 frames..hopefully I've
- described myself properly here..
-
- Also, I was reading some of the archives from earlier this year
- and saw some posts regarding cut-away views of an engine or something to
- that nature.
-
- Anyway, everyone responded by using booleans in Modeller to give
- only half of an object for rendering. Well a friend of mine works on
- Alias and does engine animations and the way they do cut-away shots of
- these engines is to use single sided polygons facing inwards. This way no
- matter where the camera is situated, you always get to see the cut-away
- back-inside faces.
-
- Is this feasible in LW, as all of the Textures that they apply
- are applied to the back-inside faces giving the impression of (for eg)
- ignition sparks and fuel flow etc.
-
- This is the way I understand all of the above to happen. I
- haven't been using LW for long (about 1 week) and have never used Alias
- (just been given a quick demo) so my thought might be completely wrong.
-
- One last thing....
-
- On the conversion of Imagine objects and the double-sided button
- which adds to rendering times. I've only converted a few of my logo's
- over and just selected the front faces, sides and back separately and
- used Align and the Flip if they were facing the wrong way. This seems to
- me to be the better way of getting these objects to work and render very
- quickly in LW as when doing say a 200 frame anim rendering with
- double-sided versus single sided polys I can see the benefits immediately.
-
- Again, these are just a new users ramblings and if I am completely wrong
- please let me know now so I don't keep the bad habits for ever :)
-
- thanks guys
